Transcripts & Audio Files

Where your recordings are saved, how to change the folder, and the transcript format.

Every recording produces two files: a markdown transcript and a compressed audio file. Both are saved to a folder you choose.

Choosing Your Transcript Folder

Click the folder button in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar to pick where files are saved.

A few tips:

  • Obsidian users — point it at a folder inside your vault (e.g., MyVault/Meetings/). Transcripts show up as searchable notes instantly.
  • iCloud/Dropbox — choose a synced folder and your transcripts are automatically backed up across devices.
  • AI agents — if you use Claude Code or pi, a folder like ~/Documents/MeetingTranscripts/ works well. The agent can find and read files there directly.

You can change the folder at any time. Existing files stay where they are — only new recordings go to the new location.

The app remembers your folder choice between launches. If the folder is missing (e.g., you unplugged an external drive), the record button is disabled until you pick a new one.

File Naming

Files are named by date and time:

2026-04-03-1400.md
2026-04-03-1400.m4a

After post-processing, the app may append an AI-generated title:

2026-04-03-1400-q2-sprint-planning.md
2026-04-03-1400-q2-sprint-planning.m4a

Transcript Format

Transcripts are plain markdown. Here’s what a typical file looks like:

# Transcript — April 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM

**Duration:** 12:34 · **Speakers:** 3

---

**[14:00:12] Speaker 1:** Let's walk through the roadmap for next quarter.

**[14:00:38] Speaker 2:** The biggest thing on my plate is the API migration.
We scoped it at three sprints but I think we can do it in two.

**[14:01:15] Speaker 3:** I can pick up the billing track. I've already been
in that code for the Stripe upgrade.

Each segment includes:

  • Timestamp — wall clock time in HH:MM:SS format.
  • Speaker label — Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc. These are assigned by the diarization model.
  • Text — the transcribed speech.

AI-Generated Titles & Summaries

On macOS 26 and later (with Apple Intelligence), the app automatically generates a short title and summary after post-processing. These appear in the transcript header:

# Transcript — April 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM

**Duration:** 12:34 · **Speakers:** 3

---

**Title:** Q2 Sprint Planning

**Summary:** The team aligned on API migration timing (2 sprints), assigned billing track to Marcus, and flagged mobile push notifications as blocked on APNs cert rotation.

The title also appears in the sidebar for easier browsing.

Because it’s plain markdown, you can:

  • Open it in any text editor or Obsidian.
  • Search across all transcripts with grep or Spotlight.
  • Feed it directly to an AI agent or LLM.
  • Version-control it with git.

Audio Files

Each recording also saves a compressed audio file (.m4a, AAC-ELD codec). Typical sizes:

DurationFile Size
15 min~2 MB
1 hour~8 MB
3 hours~24 MB

The audio captures both your microphone and system audio (the other side of calls), mixed together.

Built-in Audio Player

Select any recording to use the built-in audio player at the bottom of the detail panel:

  • Play/Pause — click the play button or press Space.
  • Skip — jump forward or backward 15 seconds.
  • Scrub — drag the progress bar to any point.
  • Click a segment — click any transcript segment to jump the audio to that timestamp. The active segment highlights as audio plays.

You can also play audio files outside the app:

  • In Finder — double-click the .m4a file to open in QuickTime.
  • From terminal — afplay ~/Documents/MeetingTranscripts/2026-04-03-1400.m4a

Searching Transcripts

Use the search field at the top of the sidebar to filter recordings. Search matches against:

  • Recording titles
  • AI-generated summaries
  • Full transcript text

This searches across all recordings in your transcript folder.

Copy & Export

In the detail view for any recording, you’ll find two buttons:

  • Copy Path — copies the file path to your clipboard (handy for pasting into a terminal or AI agent).
  • Copy Transcript — copies the full transcript text to your clipboard.

Opening in Finder

Click the Finder button next to the folder picker in the sidebar to open your transcript folder directly.

Deleting Recordings

Swipe left on a recording in the sidebar and tap Delete. This removes both the .md and .m4a files permanently.

You can also delete files directly from Finder or the terminal. The app refreshes the list automatically.
